How Can Equine Massage Help My Horse?
Keeping muscles supple and joints mobile are important factors in reducing the risk of injuries. Healthy supple muscles allow fluid movement and reduce the strain on tendons and ligaments. Reduction of stress in the soft tissues allows full range of motion in the joints. Ease of movement in the muscles and joints increase both reflex and reaction time giving the equine athlete an edge in performance and competition. Pleasure horses and retired horses benefit through less pain, stiffness and improved quality of life. Injury Rehab and Faster HealingIf an injury occurs, massage can help reduce painful spasms at and around the injured site. This aids in the healing process. Just as important, massage works other muscles throughout the body which helps relieve additional stiffness and immobility.

Therapeutic Equine MassageEach treatment is customized to the individual horse’s needs. Most treatments consist of muscle relaxation, deep tissue treatment which elongates (contracted) shortened, stress and trigger point release and stretches. Treatment is usually full body, however chronic cases may require focused work on muscle groups – $50.00 During the initial consultation, you will be asked to complete a detailed health questionnaire. Your horse's gait and movement will then be evaluated from the front, side and back and assessed for imbalances and irregularities. The goals of the massage will then be discussed and a customized massage session will commence. This will include various massage techniques, together with both passive and active stretching. Following the treatment, suggestions will be made in respect to conditioning exercises and ongoing treatment plans, if necessary. |
EQUINE MASSAGE THERAPY Equine Massage & Stretching For horses with flexing and out of the normal problems such as stiffness, high headed, irritable, tail switching, can't run, circle, back or stop correctly, or for any soreness from lame or foundered horses. This is a system for horse owners to be able to keep their horses flexible and properly aligned by deep motion flexing, massage, stretching, and poly chromatic light therapy, through techniques of flexing each joint in the spine. The horse will be more comfortable, happier and perform better. This system can also help make horse owners aware of problems that will need professional treatment. The skeleton of a horse would be nothing but a pile of bones if not for ligaments. Ligaments support the skeleton and its joints. They hold everything together. Muscles and tendons are connected. Muscles contract and pull the tendons which move the bones which move the horse. The unreleased muscle contractions, called UMC’s, can affect movement of the bones as the muscles pull against each other. UMC’s can cause severe pain or discomfort. The joint may be locked or fixed in one or both directions, or at least limited in its motion. My services include:
